Travel Awards

Apply for a travel award to attend a Workshop or Meeting about Undergraduate Research.

Professional travel is expensive and sometimes not well supported. The Division of Chemistry for the Council on Undergraduate Research has funds to award small travel awards to faculty planning to attend a CUR event, such as CUR Dialogues, a CUR Institute, or the CUR Biennial Conference.  Consideration will also be made for faculty members giving presentations related to undergraduate research at National ACS Meetings.  You can read about these and other opportunities here.

Why do we invest in professional travel?  Because it is a good investment!  Read below the perspective of a professor supported by this award.

This summer, I attended the CUR Proposal Writing Institute July 16-20 held in Minneapolis, MN.  I had heard great things about the institute from my colleagues, and knew they had benefited from attending.  I highly recommend anyone working on a proposal to attend, because it provided dedicated time for working on my proposal and access to a number of great resources through the institute facilitators.  Not only did I meet and get to know other participants and facilitators, but I felt I left with a much clearer vision for my research, a more complete draft, and a plan to complete the proposal.  One of the most helpful activities was sharing our proposal materials with other members in our group to give us an opportunity to review each other’s work.  We could see other people’s approaches to the proposal and allowed us to better see what may be lacking in our own proposals through the review process. I am so grateful to CUR for providing the travel award to attend this institute.  ~ CUR Chemistry Travel Awardee, Annette Raigoza, Ph.D. Assistant Professor of Chemistry, College of Saint Benedict | Saint John’s University
